Windows Defender Error Application failed to initialize: 0×800106ba.

This is a common error generated by Windows Defender when the Windows Defender Service cannot be started. The fix is rather straight forward…

Go to Start -> Run Type in services.msc

Make sure Windows Defender Services is running, if it is not, manually start it.

If that doesn’t fix the problem, download and install Windows Defender from Microsoft.

If your Windows XP fails to start due to an error corresponding to lost HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other important system boot files you can fix this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then launch “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot Regards, Carl
